Mobile peripherals don’t always work as described or as we would wish them. The IOGEAR USB VoIP Skype Calling Kit is one mobile gadget that does exactly what it promises and provides mobile professionals with a great way to use the Skype VoIP service.
Setting up the IOGEAR USB VoIP Skype Calling Kit was painless. Plug in the power adapter, connect the USB cable to your laptop and then fire up your laptop. Follow the prompts and then install the drivers from the included CD.
Just be sure that you have the newest version of Skype installed on your laptop first – that warning is included in the set-up brochure.
The included headset is colour coded so you won’t have any problems connecting it. While I initially thought the headset was bit light and flimsy, I soon discovered that it was very flexible and easy to adjust. It also stayed put – which isn’t always possible with over the ear loops with my glasses.
Once I had everything connected, I started a Skype call. The person on the other end wasn’t even aware I was calling through the Internet and had no problems hearing me. The IOGEAR USB VoIP Skype Calling Kit headset gave no problems. Sound quality is great. Just a word of caution – the mic is very sensitive so make sure you don’t have loud background noises.
This is a great mobile peripheral for any mobile professional to have and once you use it a couple times you’ll wonder how you managed with VoIP without it.
