Cydia Profile:
Cydia is an alternative to the original iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps packaging and repository manager. It's just like the original App Store, but allows you to access packages that Apple doesn't allow you to install (for one reason or another), like iPhone tethering app PdaNet. In addition to more freedom, Cydia offers improved organization and installation for your mobile apps, including seeing more details of installed and new apps.
Cydia Features and Apps:
Cydia requires you to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. With it, however, you gain access to an even wider array of apps and can customize your iPhone or iOS device to your heart's content. Some notable apps available in the Cydia Store include:
- OpenSSH: a secure shell client for remote access between devices
- MyWi: lets you turn your iPhone into a wi-fi hotspot for Internet access on other devices
- SBSettings: provides easy access to system options menus from other applications
In December 2010 Cydia announced it would be providing a version for Mac App Store, to allow users to more fully customize Mac OS X.
