Can Two People Share One Space?

Q
I will be sharing an office that is approximately 10 1/2' x 9 1/2'. There will be 2 desks that are 5' x 2 1/2'. I was hoping that you had an idea on the best way to place our desks and any other space saving ideas.
The door will be in the East Interior wall that is approx. 9 1/2 ' and there is 1 window in the center of the West exterior wall. I do have other furniture (filing cabinets and a table for a scanner 3' x 1 1/4') however I don't know that I will be able to fit them in there.

When setting up office especially in a new location, it's important to remember to locate all electrical outlets and telephone jacks. These can be critical to where desks and equipment are placed. It's always advisable to avoid using extension cords. Not only do they create a tripping hazard but it becomes too easy to overload them.

Window and door locations are two more considerations. Where the door is located will determine the flow of traffic into and out of the office. Placing a workstation in front of a window may be the ideal location for some, while others prefer to be away from a window. The amount of natural light that comes in through the window and how it would affect computer screens should also be considered.

Additional considerations:

  • What equipment and furnishings will be shared,
  • What is the work flow of each person
  • Whether the people are right or left-handed (this does matter)
