What Is It:
The Tecra A8 series of laptops are a business grade laptop which have had ruggedized protection features added. There are four pre-configured models available in this line. Each model has a fingerprint reader, SD slot, 3-USB 2.0 ports, RJ-45 LAN port, RJ-11 modem port, RGB monitor port and docking port.
Why Is It Different:
The Tecra A8 series of laptops are not big and bulky like some other ruggedized laptops you see available. The Tecra A8 series incorporates an exclusive to Toshiba technology - EasyGuard™ Technologies2. This includes HDD Protection and shock absorbing design. The display hinges have also been designed for long use and the display itself has a protective cover for durability. The keyboard also includes spill resistant features.
Model A8-EZ8312:
This model has Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Techology, wi-fi, and standard battery life of up to 4.12hrs. It also includes a fingerprint reader. This model has a 60GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD-ROM multifunction drive and 15.4" diagonal widescreen XGA display.
Model A8-EZ8412:
This model has an Intel® Core™2 Duo* Processor* T5500 with 667MHz FSB, 80GB HDD, 15.4" Widescreen XGA display and CD-RW/DVD-ROM multifuntion drive.
Model A8-EZ8413:
The Tecra A8-EZ8413 has Intel® Core™2 Duo* Processor, 80GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Gigabit Ethernet. It also includes fingerprint security which and also password and identity software. The display is 15.4" widescreen XGA TruBrite™. The optical drive is a CD-RW/DVD-ROM multifunction drive.
Model A8-EZ8311:
This model has a Celeron® M processor, 512MB RAM, 15.4" widescreen XGA and 60GB HDD. The optical drive is a CD-RW/DVD-ROM, Atheros® Wireless LAN (802.11b/g) and Fingerprint reader.
Just My Thoughts:
I really believe that laptops which have more rugged construction and features are a great benefit for all mobile professionals. For most mobile professionals, even semi-rugged laptops have price points beyond our budgets. They are also more weighty and may offer less in the way of connectivity.
The Tecra A8 line of laptops offer more durability and protection of data for mobile professionals than other laptops in this class.
With the selection of models available, it shouldn't be difficult to find a Tecra A8 that fits your budget and needs.
