Label for Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation - Y38-1

Clearing Customs with Mobile Gear with No Serial Numbers

From Catherine Roseberry, for About.com

In conjunction with Form Y38, Canadians may be required to use the Y38-1 label which is referred to as the "Label for Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation".
This label is to be used on all items which do not have serial numbers which make them uniquely identifiable. Once the label is affixed to a particular item it cannot be removed.
The Y38-1 has a unique number which becomes a serial number for the item. Customs will record this information on Form Y38.
