Roaming

From Catherine Roseberry, for About.com

Definition: Seamless roaming: This is the type of roaming that cell phones use. It allows you to move from one area to another and use your cell phone uninterupted. You are not aware of any changes or differences as you move from one cell base to another.<br> Nomadic roaming: This type of roaming is used by laptops or other 802.11 enabled mobile devices. The connection is not maintained continuously but re-connects when a mobile worker reaches a specific destination. Access points have changed at the different locations. A mobile worker can use their wireless network in their home office and then go to a hotspot and use their wireless access.
Examples: Roaming is possible for mobile workers when they use public hotspots for Internet access.
