Frequent Flyer Pro Constrained by Company Policies

Reader Submissions: Business Travel Tips and Tech Challenges

Job title/industry

Financial services professional

How often/where I travel for business

Once a quarter on average nowadays; in my last job about 3x a month

Technology I bring/use on business trips

Company Blackberry, company laptop, plus an iPod/iPhone for entertainment

Business travel challenges I've faced

My company issued blackberry must be at least three generations behind, so meeting scheduling and search/sort functionality is terrible.

Also security policy forbids me from browsing the web on my company blackberry for information while travelling, or installing apps.

Also ever since I started working, reimbursement of expenses is too slow to keep up with late charges on my corporate card.

Tips and Tricks

  • Not techy or revolutionary, but frequent flyer status at airports to get on priority lines for security or boarding is big.
  • Never check bags so you can hit the taxi line before the rest of your plane.
  • Also calling the phone service center for an airline while trying to change reservations is nearly always more effective than trying to talk to a rep manning a desk at the airport.

That's sad about your BlackBerry restrictions; I'm wondering what your company thinks the purpose of having the BB is for then? Thanks for the travel advice!
