Humidity is a weather condition that can effect many mobile professioanls, especially those who travel worldwide. Humidity, as we all know is the amount of water vapour in the air. It is moisture that can get into a laptop and damage the internal components if you aren't careful.
In order to work safely in a variety of conditions you can take steps to protect your laptop from humid conditions.
- Always keep your laptop in a moisture proof case when not in use.
- If you were using your laptop in a humid environmenet, wipe it down to remove any moisture or "sweat" before putting it into a case. Moisture left on the casing will seep into the laptop and cause damage.
- Try to avoid working outdoors and stay indoors, whenever possible.
- Never work directly in front of a de-humidifier or humidifier. While it may be more comfortable for your personally, it's not good for your laptop.
Standard, commercial grade laptops have not been designed to be used in extreme weather conditions and this includes areas of high humidity. If you will be working in this type of environment, your best bet is to consider purchasing a rugged laptops.
Rugged laptops are designed for use in extreme conditions and most have specifications that meet or exceed MIL-STD 810F standards which includes humidity.
