It is a good idea to periodically check to make sure you have the latest and most up-to-date software running on your Mac notebook. If you turned off automatic updates when you first up your notebook, then you should be checking each month for new updates.

Here's How:
- Click on the Apple icon on the top left of your display.
- Select and click on Software Update.
- It will check for new updates and list any that are available.
- Click the checkbox for any updates you wish to download at this time. The size of the download and whether a restart is required will be indicated.
- You have the choice to select Quit or Install. If a download is particularly large and you have limited Internet access you can select Quit and download the updates later. Once you click on Install you will be prompted for your Adminstrator password.
- If a restart is required you will be prompted to restart or cancel.
- Once the update has been installed and/or your Mac restarted the Software Update runs again to make sure all applicable updates have been installed. Some updates must installed in a particular sequence and this process makes sure you have the right updates installed in order.

- Watch the file size of downloads to ensure that you will have enough time and the Internet access to download and install.
