How To Manually Set Hibernate on Your Laptop

If you happen to be away from your laptop for a period of time and want to ensure that you are conserving battery power and keeping your documents safe, then using manual hibernate is a good solution.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Less Than 5 Minutes

Here's How:

  1. From Start go to Control Panel and then double-click Power Options.
  2. Select the Hibernate tab and choose "Enable hibernate support".
  3. Click OK and this will close the Power Options window.
  4. Select Start then Shut Down. When asked what you want to do click on Hibernate.
  5. If you have Fast User Switching enabled you will be given the options to Stand By, Turn Off or Restart. In order to get the Hibernate option - hold down the Shift key and Stand By will change to Hibernate.

What You Need:

  • Must be logged in as Administrator or have Administrator privileges.
