Gateway S-7200c Convertible Tablet PC

Gateway S-7200c Convertible Tablet PC

Gateway, Inc.

The Bottom Line

The Gateway S-7200c Convertible Tablet PC is well suited to mobile professionals and life on the road. It offers the features of a desktop replacement laptop without the greater weight and the convenience of writing directly on the screen. The included software will enable you to work productively. The Gateway S-7200c will ensure that you stay connected on the road and work easily where ever you happen to be. I would have preferred a larger hard drive as 40GB is small compared to other Tablets.

Pros

  • Bright and crisp display.
  • Excellent User Manual
  • Very good battery life with optional 12 cell battery and modular battery.

Cons

  • 40GB Hard Drive is on the small side.

Guide Review - Gateway S-7200c Convertible Tablet PC

The review unit I received included an extra 12-cell battery and 6-cell modular battery. This way I was able to see just how long I could work on battery power alone.

I enjoying working on Tablet PCs and writing directly on the screen is very comfortable for me. The Gateway S-7200c makes it easy to customize the orientation (even for lefties like me) and even though it is heavier than some other Tablet PCs, it is very sturdy and built to used by mobile professionals. This is not a flimsy machine and it's solidness feels right.

I mentioned the extra battery options I received with the evaluation unit and I strongly recommend buying the 12-cell battery and the 6-cell modular bay battery. Using both of these batteries and operating with Wi-Fi enabled I was able to work for 7 hrs and 45 mins before getting the warning that it was time to plug it in. This was quite an acceptable length of time. Using the 8-cell battery which it ships with and the 6-cell modular battery, I was able to work for approximately 6 hrs and 33 mins before finding the power cord.

Swapping batteries is very easy. I would advise installing the 12-cell battery with the modular battery and keeping the 8-cell charged and in reserve.

The keyboard is a nice size and comfortable to use. When using the stylus there is plenty of room to rest your wrist.

Regularly using the CD burner for files or an external storage drive is recommended.

Overall this is a well built and sturdy Tablet PC for mobile professionals.
