AirCard®

From Catherine Roseberry, for About.com

Definition:

An AirCard® is a device for a laptop, PDA or cell phone that allows the user to connect to wide area wireless Internet access.

They are connected to your mobile gadget using an available USB port, PCMCIA card slot or ExpressCard slot.

AirCards® are manufactured by Sierra Wireless and may be sold in conjunction with a variety of cell phones, laptops or SmartPhones.

An AirCard® will enable you to have Internet access without having to rely on hot spot availability, access to a phone line for dial-up or sharing a wired connection at a job site.

You will need a service plan (normally through your cell phone service provider) that allows you to access the Internet with your AirCard®. Before committing to any one company be sure you check to see what type of coverage you will have and how much access will cost you. Go with an unlimited access plan if you can afford to do so.
