Guide Review - Apricorn microKey Ruggedized USB Storage Device
I received the 6GB microKey to review. Its design is unique when compared to other external USB storage devices. At first glance I wasn’t too sure how well it would actually work when using other USB peripherals on my laptop. I was pleasantly surprised to find that with the swivel connector I had no problems using the microKey with other USB peripherals at the same time.The microKey is very sturdy and feels solid; it’s not an external drive that you’ll need to worry about being damaged wherever you happen to be using it. The included carrying case has a Velcro strap which can be attached to a belt or kept handy in your laptop case.
I did find that not having a protective cap for the USB connector was a bit of concern as I may not always use the carrying case with the microKey. This may not be a bother for many and provided you keep the microKey in a padded pocket of your laptop case I wouldn’t anticipate problems.
The amount of space on the microKey was more than adequate for keeping the files that I use between my desktop and laptop. This made it quick and quite painless to keep my files in sync.
The Cryptainer Encryption software is another nice addition and I strongly advise all mobile professionals to use encryption software. It’s an added layer of security y for your data and peace of mind.
Overall the micorKey is a very useful USB external storage device and the rugged zed features make it even better suited for a mobile work environment.
