Guide Review - TDS Ranger Rugged Handheld
At first glance, the TDS Ranger is quite unusual looking for a handheld computer. Its larger, weighs more than youd expect for a PDA and has a unique shape. These are all factors which contribute to its rugged design and great functionality in any environment.
The design actually makes it easier to hold, as it fit comfortably, even my small hand and the included hand strap increases the security when holding it for any length of time.
The stylus acts as the screw driver for attaching and removing the battery and protective cap. There is a slot at the top of the Ranger to hold the stylus when not in use. For those frustrated by the size of standard PDA styli, the stylus with the Ranger is like using a pen. Its thick and easy to grip.
Even though I dont need a rugged PDA, I do appreciate the design. It gives me peace of mind to know that no matter where I might happen to be working or any conditions, the Ranger will work and protect my data. It operates just like any other PDA, except the integrated keyboard makes inputting large amounts of data much easier. While it does take some time adjusting to the weight and feel of the Ranger, it isnt a feature that will slow you down. A couple hours (if that long) and youll be entering data quickly and with little effort.
A rugged PDA is not for everyone, but those who work outdoors regularly will appreciate the Ranger and its capabilities. You can work in the rain or snow and be assured that the Ranger will not be damaged.
