Now that you have some great new mobile gear its time to think about what you are going to do with your used gear. You have a variety of options available, and deciding which method to use will be based on whether you have someone who can still use your older gear or if you just want to get rid of it. Don't forget to delete all data files and include any software discs that will be required. Read all program licensing files to make sure you can pass these programs on through donation or sale.
Before donating your used mobile gear to charity or non-profits, make sure you have deleted all data files and any programs that you will not be including the discs for. Write out a description of the particular gadget and include the specifications. Be sure to advise the organization if there are any problems with the gadget. In some cases you may receive a charitable tax receipt for your donation. These organizations will be appreciative of any used mobile gear which is donated.
Schools
Many schools do not have the funding available to purchase laptops or other mobile gear which can be used in classrooms. Donating to a school can be a great way to help out future mobile workers. Even if your mobile gear isn't in perfect working order, it could still be used for students to learn how the gadgets operate and they may even be able to make simple repairs. Either way it provides students with another learning tool.Going the route of recycling your used mobile gear helps prevent computer components from going to landfill sites. There are a variety of programs which are available - most do involve a nominal charge for picking up the gear. You can also check your local phone book and call recycling companies to see what programs they have available for used mobile gear. They may have something in place where they can make repairs and then pass on to charities or non-profits.
Pass On to Family Members
If your used mobile gear still works and you have a family member who can put it to good use - why not pass it on? You may be able to provide someone with a way to get online or do school work. Make sure you are teach them how to properly use the used mobile gear and that you follow all licensing requirements.Sell it Yourself
I have left this option as a last resort as you have to realize that you will never get back what you paid and in many cases the amount you receive will be minimal. Selling your mobile gear yourself can be done through ads or online auctions. Remember to indicate that the used mobile gear is being sold "as-is" and what software will be included.
