Guide Review - Sharp M4000 WideNote™

The M4000 is the newest ultra portable laptop from Sharp. While I haven’t had a chance yet to review it personally, I have read the specs and it certainly sounds to be a very promising ultra portable laptop geared to mobile professionals.

One of the more interesting aspects of this ultra portable laptop is the power management system which will let you determine the amount of power being used by subsystems such as the display, hard drive, optical drive and Wi-Fi for example. The choices in this application are: Max Power, Mobile & Max Mobile. Using this application should enable you to get the most effective battery use from the M4000 and hopefully prevent you from being stranded with no power and no way to operate your laptop.

In an ultra portable, 13.3” display is pretty much the standard. With the Sharp M4000 offers a widescreen display which has a brightness of 300cd/m2 & the display itself has a clear finish to provide a better color and clarity.

The casing itself is constructed of brushed aluminum which looks good and provides more resistance to impacts. With a brushed finish you also avoid the “fingerprint” look and dirt collections that a non-brushed finish gives. The motherboard, drives & display are have magnesium frames to improve stability.

One of the most important features that mobile professionals look for is a full size keyboard which the M4000 has. Quite often the keyboard size can be a deal breaker. You don’t have to worry on that count with the M4000.
