Maintaining the same lightweight and compact design of previous models, the new Futura now has open ventilation channels compared to the closed channels of previous models. There is a central oval opening and six vents on each side.

There is a noticeable difference between using the Futura and one of the previous models which have closed channels. My laptop did get as warm on the bottom and the Futura does not hold the heat either.

Along with those improvements there are also raised rubber grips on both sides which help keep your laptop stand in place on flat surfaces and your laptop from slipping on the Futura. The grip pads are well placed so that even a large wide-screen laptop will be secure on the Futura.

While you can't use a mouse with the Futura at this time, there will be an extension released later this year. The Futura will also be available in colors later this year - both custom colors and selected colors.

When not in use the Futura snaps together and is thin enough that it will fit quite easily in any laptop bag. It doesn't add any discernable weight to the rest of your gear but will make using your laptop much more comfortable.

If you use your laptop in more than one location (and use your lap frequently) then the compact size and functionality of the Futura may be just the right laptop stand for your needs.
