You do require a Wi-Fi enabled device, and it must be properly installed and setup to access the Wi-Fi network. Most laptops now have built-in Wi-Fi cards, but if you have an older laptop you can purchase a Wi-Fi enabled PCMIA card or use USB Wi-Fi adapters.
Some PDAs can also be Wi-Fi enabled with the addition of an adapter and there are newer PDAs which are sold with built-in Wi-Fi readiness.
