Trains provide an excellent and safe means of travel for mobile office professionals. You can put your time waiting for a train and the time spent on the journey working.
While in a station waiting for your train:
- Pick a quiet spot
- Don't spread your gear out all over
- Don't get carried away while on the phone, remain discreet
- Don't broadcast what you are working on
- Watch others to make sure that no one is paying undue attention to you and your gear
- Never leave your mobile gear unattended.
On the train:
- Choose a window seat, aisles may offer more room but window seats are more private
- Try to avoid using a cell phone - it can irritate other passengers and you may disclose confidential information
- Unless the passenger next to you is a co-worker, don't allow anyone to view your display
- Keep conversations to a minimum - politely explain that you are working
- Keep any paperwork organized and be mindful if something falls.
A train trip can be very enjoyable and provide you with a quiet environment to work in, when used wisely.
Always be considerate of other passengers and do not do anything to annoy others. You might find yourself leaving the train sooner than you thought.
