When traveling to another country - be sure you have a universal power adapter and jack adapter kit packed with your mobile gear.

Answer: Yes, you require special adapters and other mobile gear in order to safely use your mobile gear overseas.

If your mobile gear is dual voltage -
What you need:

  • Appropriate adapter (3-pin grounded or 2-pin) for your destination.
  • Appropriate telephone jack adapter for country of destination.
  • Check for presence of digital phone system.
  • Tax impulsing in Germany and Austria requires a line filter.
  • You may also need a line tester to ensure that you have a good line for your modem.
  • A 220v surge protector. May require a grounded adapter plug.

If your mobile gear is 110v -
What you need:

  • Appropriate transformer
  • Grounded adapter for country of your destination.
  • Appropriate telephone jack adapter for country of destination.
  • Check for presence of digital phone system.
  • Tax impulsing in Germany and Austria requires a line filter.
  • You may also need a line tester to ensure that you have a good line for your modem.
  • A 110v surge protector (plugged into the transformer), or a 220v surge protector and an adapter plug, which are plugged directly into the wall.

You can buy universal adapter kits, transformers and telephone jack adapter kits at Big Box computer stores, Surplus Stores, Hardware stors and various online vendors. The kits are quite small and compact. Once you purchase your kits, its a wise idea to always leave them in your travel bag ready for your next business trip.
