War Driving

Definition: An unethical method of obtaining free Internet access using other companies or persons unsecured wireless LANs. It involves driving around with a laptop computer and an 802.11 wireless LAN adapter set to promiscuous mode. It can receive any packets within its range. People using this method may also try to illegally access files.
Examples: Using firewalls can prevent war drivers from accessing corporate files.
