Study Finds Internet and Mobile Power Connections Help Boost Consumer Satisfaction with Airports

The 2010 North American Airport Satisfaction Study, released yesterday by J.D. Power & Associates, found that the greatest factors to consumers' satisfaction with airports were the basic ones, such as: speed of baggage delivery, ease of check-in, and airport terminal comfort. The study also found, however, that technological conveniences such as Internet access and power connections for mobile devices (laptops, cell phones, etc.) contributed to the overall airport satisfaction ratings.

In fact, according to a MarketWatch article on the study, Detroit's Metropolitan Wayne County Airport got its top rank among large airports this year due to, in part, its technological improvements and offerings. The article also notes that travelers are coming to expect these mobile tech conveniences at airports, and those airports that fail to provide such an environment will lose out to their competitors.

This is definitely good news for mobile workers, since we can expect to see an increase in wireless Internet access and mobile power sources at airports. The findings also underscore mobile users' growing influence on major industries.

What do you think? How much does Web access at an airport increase your satisfaction with it? Would you be more likely to use a different local airport if it had better technology?
