Gee, I guess we need to let all those folks who still have dial-up that they must stop - even though the reason they use dial-up is that there is no other option available. Many of us forget that high-speed and wireless Internet access are just not available yet in some areas. See the numbers that Michael Bloch has posted at Taming The Beast.net. beside availability, there’s another reason many people do not use broadband – and that is the high cost. To change to broadband in my area is $50 (before taxes) and that is just simply too much for some of us. Since it was first introduced I thought the cost would come down, as is usual with innovative technology lately. I was wrong. When broadband becomes an affordable choice, then I will gladly join the ranks of all who currently enjoy it.
A reason to keep dial-up is acess while on travel. I can dial up from any fixe line anywhere and check my emails for a low costs. I even have a dial up account in the country I usualy visit for business so I don’t pay for roaming. At home and in office I have broadband.
S. Korea has only 2% dialup? Sounds fishy. I’ll bet a most of their internet access is through 4g mobile phones. That’s the way to get broadband internet numbers up, imo, make broadband wireless ubiquitous.
