A great reminder, particularly in these days of smog, traffic congestion, and the specter of global warming. My own city, Atlanta, already has some initiatives designed to promote cyber-commuting. I am hopeful that the day may come soon when we can work anywhere, from the bed or the park. However, in order for that to occur I think there need to be some big shifts in both the state of technology and how we use it. You are certainly right that it’s already easy to conduct meetings and all sorts of other business from across continents, thus saving enormous sums in flight time and cost. However, if we could begin to shift to Web 2.0 and other sorts of computer based work environments, we might be able to accomplish many of the same things we currently do, things that necessitate face-to-face meetings and coordination with our colleagues. At present, though, I’m not sure the average employee is comfortable enough with these sorts of cyber environments to be able to easily accomplish normal business.
