Companies Increase Virtual Communication and Cut Back On Driving For Earth Day
If it feels like you spend too much time stuck in your car, you're not alone. The average American commute has increased 236 percent in the last decade -- not counting all the back and forth trips we take during the day for meetings. Last year, commuters spent $60 billion for gasoline for work-related trips alone.
According to a recent Harris Interactive poll, most Americans would cut down on workday travel if they could. 80% of those polled said they would be willing to meet electronically, not face-to-face, if it were an option.
In honor of Earth Day (April 22), an eco-conscious company is showing corporate America how easy that option can be. "Make The Road Less Traveled" is a campaign offering free integrated web, audio and video conferencing to businesses. The purpose is to show companies how effective and timesaving virtual meetings can be. Not to mention much better for the environment.
Even the smallest company can make a difference in both efficiency and environmental responsibility by cutting back on employee drive time. Hopefully, in time the electronic "Superhighway" will become the road most traveled.
